Socially Liberal churches
I live in Cleveland, Tn, aka Church of God town, and I'm looking for a more liberal church. I've always attended conservative churches, but it seems they are just getting more and more judgemental, and making more rules. Every church I go to I am condemed to hell for having the occasional drink, supporting obama, and mostly because I am more excepting of homosexuality. I guess I'm not completely liberal, I am pro-life, with exceptions, but I would be willing to go to a church that wasn't. I have reserched the Unitarian Universalist church, which i guess is theologically liberal because they don't believe in hell. So I guess i'm socially liberal, because I have pretty traditional religous views. If anyone knows of a church for me, or a denomination I could try, please let me know. Thanks.

The Unitarians are about as liberal as you get, I think. A notch down from that - you might try Congregational (UCC) churches, although they are hard to find in the South. You might also try Presbyterian (PCUSA, not PCA) - but I think this would vary a lot from church to church as to how liberal the members were. I know this can be a difficult search - I also consider myself Christian and have always attended church, but am now and was brought up very socially liberal. I don't think I've ever found exactly my right match with a church.

This may sound very crazy to some,as it is a very misunderstood religion but I am being honest here. Have you tried a Catholic church?

we've actually talked about trying the catholic church, it would be very diff for us we've always attended the church of God or pentecostal churches, though we didnt agree with it all, i've been researching the PCUSA... and concidering trying it.... and will also probably try a liberal methodist church.... i was raised so sheltered to other denominations, so I'm new to this.

Let's see...Catholics don't believe in any form of birth control, don't tolerate gays and lesbians, don't allow women into the priesthood, and still force priests into ridiculous celibacy. Sounds liberal to me.
