I'll be shocked if the plant goes union. VW had a plant in Westmoreland, PA years back and had major issues with the UAW, which they didn't want but eventually the factory went union.
Westmoreland was complicated and happened at a time when everyone else started entering the small car market. It was open for maybe 10 years, late 70s to late 80s. Sony started building tvs there and I'm not sure if they still are.
I'm hoping everything goes well and that this is a successful venture for VW. I worked for VW for 33 years in the parts division in the midwest.

I worked at the VW plant in PA that closed 20 years ago and still drive one to this day. They were good to me and the great wages I made for ten years enabled me to start a business when it closed.
They better have a good idea for a product that will sell in the US this time, as they have even stiffer competition now.
If you are fortunate to land a job there be smart and save your money, because they may be gone in ten years!
The UAW did negotiate a great wage package, but protected the deadbeats/troublemakers, and made ridiculous work rules.

Original poster: You and about 10 million other people want to be on the inside track. They have already aligned with Chatta State and have an agreement for the students to be trained and then hired. SEAMLESS They want you whipper snappers that are trained to their standards.

That sounds exactly like the place I work for and we are non-union. I have to ask to cut my break time short or if I can come in early or stay late to get the job done. And, then once I get permission, I still get questioned by my boss about overtime even though it is explained in full details on my time sheet and he is the one who initially approved it.

Expect something like this very soon guys: http://www.bmwusfactory.com/#/expansion/ Congrats Chattanooga on landing this plant. BMW has been nothing but a blessing here. I don't expect anything less with Volkswagen there.
