If you need to work for a living Florida may not be the place for you. Wages are much lower than the rest of the country. We thought it would be like being on vacation all the time. That was not the case. We won't mind going on vacation once and awhile to Florida but we will never live full time ever again in Florida.

That was discussed on the Florida forum and the population continued to grow for Florida -- over 300,000 from July 2005 - July 2006 according to the US Census. Guess they all didn't use United Vanlines!

Jammie...I'm only up this late because I'm watching the Academy Awards for some dumb reason....anyway, I'm also sitting here still playing on the computer and found a website you might like. Has 89 photos of places in and around Chattanooga. The first 2 didn't come up on my computer, but so just scroll down to the 3rd one if you have the same problem!

Kar, it does seem to be popular opinion that central and southern Fla. are affordable only for the wealthy. And since I'll be working for life, I'll probably never be in that category. But it's definitely a wonderful place to vacation and Tn is a lot closer to Fla. then SD is.

Nana, OK I understand your name now. Florida to Tennessee. DUH. Thank you for the site you provided. Those are such nice pics. I thought the horse and carriage tour looks like it'd be fun. (We did that in Orange City, Ia. and it's so quaint) The aquarium looks beautiful. (Reminded me of the OK aquarium and we loved that)The fountain at Riverfront Park is so beautiful. Lulu Falls was also one of my fave pics. The albino snake and the swinging bridge~I passed over them quickly. Now I can't wait until morning to show my husband.

I never said that the US census number was wrong! All I mentioned was that it was the first time in 30 years that this company had more loads leaving than coming in. People considering moving to Florida need to think things through before just making the move. You need to think what kind of things you like to do when you have the free time. Do you like boating, golfing, laying at the beach all day? Depending on where you choose to live in Florida it may be pretty dull unless you have interest in the above activities. Unless you have a sizable income you will most likely live on a quarter acre lot or less with your neighbors being able to reach out the window and touch your house. Yes Florida has some very nice things about it but it also has a number of things that are not so nice. Just do your homework before you make the move.

I couldn't agree more that an out of state move needs to be thought through unless you're brave like Hiknapster was. We do love going to the beach, but we also like areas like Chattanooga appears to be. And it appears that it's in reasonable driving distance to the Fla. panhandle anyway. It looks like a mixture between the Black Hills and the Ozarks and we like both of those places. Have any of you been to either place and if so, is that a correct comparison?

I may have already asked this question, but on the pics I saw something called the Nightfall Concert Series. Do you know what type of music they have for that? Any 60s or 70s bands?

Hi Jammie,
Tennessee is a music mecca. Both my wife and I have formal education in music. We are in heaven here. What ever your taste in music is Tennessee has it. If you love the arts I can't think of a better place to live.

Oh thank you, Kar. I just had to stop back on this site because I found the info about the Nightfall concerts. Wow, all summer long they have free local concerts from groups around the area~all types of music. You can't beat that. How interesting that you and your wife have degrees in music. I didn't have an interest in going to college, but the ONE interest I had was music and that would've been my major. Since then I've grown an interest in so many things. It's so good to hear that they have all types of music. My biggest fear is that it would be all country music and that's my least favorite. But I guess that assumption would be about as fair as someone thinking that all we have here is cowboy music.

I also found a lot of pics of Chattanooga on Webshots and it is beautiful there.

Hi Jammie,
We live in the Nashville area and have some of the best jazz, rock and classical music around as well as being the country music capital of the world. The Nashville Symphony is one of the best in the United States as well as the Nashville Ballet and Opera. I think you will find that this state has a lot to offer.

Jammie:

Actually, our move was well-planned out, it's just with no money you can only do so much planning. We were literally forced out of our home and couldn't afford to live in Florida anymore.

We knew we could at least make a go of it in Tennessee.

It seemed from the first month forward we had more money in Tennessee., but as I've said it was not about the money. We could have moved to Iowa and had an even lower cost of living, but we wanted to be in the South.

Anyway, if you are a music lover than you CANNOT MISS Chattanooga's Riverbend Festival. It is June 8 through 16 this year. Check it out!
