No worries, dashreeve....If you look at older posts, you will see, tridad, my DH, is a former Floridian (hopefully not a Floridiot as they somewhat effectionately, somewhat not, say on this board)....He just means he likes TN the way it is and does not want people to bring bad habits from specifically S. FL up here. Most notably, he is speaking of driving habits.....

I think they do speed here. I like that slower driving pace when I visit TN. I like the fact that everyone is not stressed out and in a hurry. It just struck my funny b/c I have seen some people say mean things here about southerners, but this is one of the only posts I've seen the TN people say anything negative about anyone. I want to think all in TN are nice, friendly, and helpful.....

VERY TRUE, usually people who complain, complain about everything wherever they go.

Isn't it funny how people have that "grass is greener" mentality until they go to the other side and then miss their own lawn. I moved to Chatt from a small Northcoast town in Cali over 12 years ago to be near my parents and when I got here, I cried. I missed the quaint artsy town that I came from and faced the ugly downtown area of boarded up shops and delapitated housing. What a wonderful change has happened in the past 10 years! That artsy little town has made its way here and the one I came from is now boarded up. How did that happen? Chattanooga is where my youngest was born and where I call home now. Do I still miss Cali? Yes, I miss certain things but if they will back the ocean up to Snow Hill Road and pack in a few Redwoods, all would be perfect! Since that isn't going to happen, I guess I need to work on my own backyard to make it home. By the way..............my parents have long since gone back to Florida. Hmmmmm, sounds like a theme to me.

We've been living in South Florida for well over a decade. We head for Tennessee and the Carolinas every chance we get!!!! The mosquitos are horrible and eat you year round, the schools are absolutely horrid, people suck, we are overwhelmed with immigrants from third world countries and carribbean islands who refuse to assimilate, show total disrespect toward Americans and our country, crime is unbelievable. South Florida could and would be an absolutely beautiful place, however, immigration is now taking a terrible toll on the region. The beaches are so littered with trash as I've never seen anywhere else...watch the third world country immigrants literally throw trash EVERYWHERE rather than walk a few feet to a garbage can, they pull their children's pants down anywhere, including in shallow areas of pools at aquatic centers to have them urinate right there...in the water with everyone else. When you approach them, they scream at you, telling you that you should mind your business. "Um, hello, you are pissing in the water that my children are also in!!!! It IS my business!!!!" I can go on and on. The people in TN are SO super friendly, the area is so outdoorsy and that is what we are all about. We love it there and we love the people. I would love to move there and if we do, I hope you love us back!!!

Possibly. The mosquitoes can be bad in the summer, but certainly not the rest of the year. And it depends where you are and just what the day is like. It's not as bad as South Florida, however.

We've been debating on whether to move to Chattanooga from VA (we are orginally from Nashville) and HELIX helped me to decided that C'nooga just might be a good fit for us! Thanks!

Now, would someone help me REALLY make up my mind...? Does anyone have a comparison to Nashville? I need something to grab hold of! We just got back from a weekend trip to C'nooga and thought it was lovely...but I am wanting info regarding taxes, best places to raise kids, crime etc...

thanks in advance
