Another "relocating" thread...need help fast!
I recently accepted a new job in Chattanooga and now I'm in the process of figuring out where to live. I found this forum and it seems like everyone on the board is really nice and helpful, so I figured I'd see if I could find some help. I only have a week or so to find a place, and I know nothing about the city. I also don't know anyone there, so I'd like to live in an area with sociable, friendly folks. At the risk of this sounding like a personals ad, I'm a 28 year old, single, female engineer. I have two young kids who will be staying with me occasionally. I'll be working in the Brainerd area and I'd prefer to be as close to the office as possible. I'm looking for a rental around $800/month. I'd like something unique (possibly a loft?) as opposed to a run of the mill apartment. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Why not ask some of the people at the place that hired you?
They might have some good suggestions.

I saw some on craigslist, I'll DM you that one . For convenience, your best bets would be East Brainerd, East Ridge and Missionary Ridge.

don't take this wrong, but why would you accept a job in a city that you didn't know anything about?

So I know you asked the OP & not me but here's what I would say...
People move to places they know nothing about all the time. Some folks are bigger risk takers than others & often that risk pays off. Perhaps it is a better paying job she has found.
I think we(people on the forum) should just answer the OPs questions as best we can & only ask her questions if we need more information to help with the move. (just my opinion)
I know nothing about the Brainerd area of town so I am of no help here but I wish you lots of luck with your move & new job.

And I would add if a job opportunity is good you just take it, and if your job relocates you, you go. I accepted a job in this area without knowing anything about Chattanooga because of the position and what it offered. I investigated the area after I accepted and had 1 weekend to come down and find a place to live.

I have personal experiance with Louisville Land Co. (llc, real estate, and Property management) with several addresses in Cleveland TN. The owner runs a C21 out of Chattanooga as well with one other person (Joe V. Wiilliams, III and Kennedy Omanwa of Williams and Williams Century 21). I'd steer clear of any recommendations made by them. Lest anything be considered slanderous regarding this post, I will be happy to provide proof, photos and a court docket #. I wish I'd been warned away from these unethical people. They prey on out-of-towners so beware. They also operate under assumed names, which is a matter of public record, so check out anyone you are doing business with throughly, but not with the BBB who said the problems they create are civil and not their jurisdiction (hence-court, ie: huge hassle)

Chattanooga Living
Louisville Land/owner Joe V. Williams III spends a lot of time in court. There's no reason to expect him to conduct his business in Chattanooga differently.

I agree with jkmewright. East Brainerd, near the mall would be your best and safest bet. They are having a crime wave in Brainerd right now, so I'd stay clear of that area. There are some nice apartment (and home) rentals out near the mall and just past it to the north.
