Considering moving to Chat or vicinity and wondering if there are any schools with orchestra programs. The only ones I have found are private schools and ridiculously out of our pricerange. I thought Kentucky schools would have less to offer, but most of our schools have those programs. I haven't been able to find one in Chat. If anyone has info, please help. We don't want to lose a big part of our son's life due to move and even though he will still be in middle school next year, high school is right around the corner and a huge part of our relocation plan. Thanks!

Try Center for Creative Arts in North Chattanooga. It's a public school with grades 6-12. Most of our schools will have some sort of strings program but I think CCA would be the best one if you are serious.

Wow! Thank you soooo much for this information. Our possible relocation is still in its infancy, but this information makes me really happy. Our son is a very creative, animated, and happy kid (especially for a new teen) and to drop music (orchestra) from his curriculum would really be a shame.
Can you tell me about the areas that feed into this school (is there a limited district for attendance)? Are there neighborhoods that are not out of the normal budget yet safe and not run down? Where we live now there are nice neighborhoods that are just a block away from not-so-nice neighborhoods, but unless you have lived here for awhile, you wouldn't know any better. Possibility of working at Erlanger.

Thanks

Well, the area close to the school is very trendy right now (which translates to spendy) BUT the good news is that it is a magnate school so you can live anywhere in the county and still go there Here is the link for it:

The link for application:

Magnet Schools (http://www.hcde.org/site/schools/magnet_schools/default.aspx - broken link)

They do have bus pick up but only in certain locations. It is relatively close to downtown and Erlanger too. If you find a realty search which lets you search by school zones, Center for Creative Arts might be listed as Chattanooga High if the site is not updated.

We too have those neighborhoods like you mentioned, go one block and lock the doors. We also have large zones that most of us would deem safe and family friendly so it looks like the world is your oyster... at least the world of Chattanooga
