Hi all,

I'm interested in moving to Chattanooga, but I want to be close to the mountains. Would you be able to tell me which are the closest mountains to Chattanooga, and which towns/neighborhoods would be best to live in for mountain views, if any. We're looking for 1-5 acres.

Also, if anyone has photos of local mountains we'd love to see them.

Thanks so much!

Signal Mountain, Lookout Mountain, and Raccoon Mountain (Walden Ridge, I think, is the other name for it) are the closest mountains. Finding 5 acres with views on any of them may be a bit pricey. All are plateaus, so they are long, flat topped mountains of approximately 1,900 feet and run for miles. I would guess 5 acres of view would run around $1mil or so, maybe less if there are no utilities etc. If you are looking for something more economical, you might check near Dunlap, TN. There is a lot of nice mountain property with beautiful views there, although it is maybe 30 mins NW of Chattanooga. Lots on the same range (but further North) sell at a great discount to those with views of Chattanooga.

Thank you, Dasmairian! I will check those places out as well. If I were to live in Chattanooga what are the best areas for families with young children? I have a 4 year old (almost) and 1 year old.

Thanks again!

Around here you almost CAN'T run into a mountain so I won't add to the list If you are looking for acreage and mtn views, try Lookout Valley or Soddy Daisy. Dunlap is also good. These would probably give you the most bang for your buck. That is if you want to look UP at the mtn and not DOWN into the valley All family friendly as well.

Great! We'll be making a trip out there in a few weeks and I'll be sure to add these places to our list.

Thank you!

I also like Flintstone and Chickamauga BUT they are in GA with state taxes. Nice ride for giggles if you guys want to check out some beautiful farmland in the cove.

I live off Mountain Creek Road and have a great view of Signal Mountain. You can get a home in my neighborhood easily under 200K. If you live on the east side of Red Bank, though, you won't get as good or any views.

The best views are found in St. Elmo, imo. Love all the early century homes down there too.

St Elmo might have good views but I'd recommend researching other aspects of the area carefully before choosing to move there.
