I have lived in Chattanooga for most of my life. Soddy Daisy will be a bit of a commute, and it will always be a bit of a commute from there to do just about anything. I lived in Soddy Daisy for about 3 years, and it was okay. The drive got old after a while. I would highly recommend renting an apartment around Ooltewah, Hixson, Cleveland, East Brainerd or somewhere around Hamilton Place. Any of these places should give you a fairly short drive. If you rent, you will have plenty of time to determine which area you like best as far as the neighbors, schools, etc. I hope you enjoy your relocation to our area. If you are looking for additional local things to do once you get here look up https://www.sites.google.com/site/chattanoogalocals/home.

I took my physical/drug screen Mar. 7 for VW. Does anyone know how long it takes them to make you a final offer?

I'm very interested to see how CMM is doing at VW. I have 10+ years of CMM and Optical Gauging programming experience. I am currently employed but have always wanted to work in the automotive industry. I see there is still postings for Measurement Tech Specialist. I know this is getting personal, but I am dying to know what "ballpark" figure does this position pay? Even if you can give a range I would appreciate it.

Thanks

I was hired on as a production team member just over a month ago and it is my understanding that hiring has been completed for permenant VW employees (at least on a large scale). They are now using a staffing agency called Aerotek to fill in the last 300 positions. There is a direct link on the Aerotek website for applying for these positions. If you applied and haven't been contacted I'd urge you to not lose hope though; I expect there to be a considerable amount of turnover once production starts to really ramp up.

That being said, I must admit to being impressed so far with the working conditions. It has been comparable to my experience of joining the military (without all the shouting though). Orientation, fundamental training, and even physical training takes place during the first month before you ever touch a car. In comparison, when I started my previous job at a manufacturing plant here in Athens, I literally got a 30 second pep talk before I was on a tug driving around with no clue as to what was going on.

Apparently I got spanked in the testing. I didn't realize I was getting testing for a management level level position. I can probably work the majority of their current CMM Measurment specialists under the table. I guess
I gues I would be a bit jealous if I knew they were paying that position over 56.5K/yr. The dreamlike feeling of working for "Volkswagon" has worn off. I truly hope they flourish for years to come. Hola.
