So if you are out driving around there will be sales way before the 6-9? and when you say "they are not supposed to be" as in selling ahead of time--how is this all regulated? and I think I recall reading somewhere that selling stops at 5pm??? This just all seems strange to me--it's a yard sale. Each should be able to sell when they want and how late they want-esp. if it's their own property...

If you tell me what type of things you are looking for I can probably direct you to it. Most venders try to get the same place year after year.

As far as regulation, actually they are regulated by the local lawmen and they do shut down at 5:00 pm. and cover their stuff up with tarps. They have to or it would be total chaos and a lot of wrecks for people trying to get home from work. I did hear today from a Chamber of Commerce member the cops are going to try to crack down on the sales and try to be sure no one is going to sell before it officially begins or they will be fined and banned. I don't see how that is going to be enforced but who knows? Its ok to come a day early if you want and just window shop and get a feel for it and see if there is anything that catches your eye. I do! Someone might sell to you early and others may not.
We have a store right there in the center of town so I'll let you know how its developing a few days ahead. I'm either going to close down completely for that time or be taking some very long lunch breaks. I'm the boss so I can get away with it. LOL
As far as the ones selling on their own property, I am not sure at all these rules apply to them. Good question.
I'll try to find out more.

NEW INFORMATION!
OK I am very glad I bothered to go to the head Sequatchie County Chamber of Commerce in Dunlap today for you for the proper and accurate information which was given to me incorrectly by one of their members that wasn't up to speed.

This information is directly from them and may or may not apply to any other place but I have also called up to the Chamber in Crossville and they told me bascially the same thing. This is pretty much verbatum as best as I can get:

There will be no "crack down" to close at 5:00 by lawmen. That was a rumor. The lawmen will be out there for trafffic control during that time to help in that capacity to help people get home from work, but not to be closing down sales.

You can also start buying and selling anytime as soon as anyone has their booths open and that includes even if they set up a week in advance. They are not required to stop selling at 5:00 PM, that is by choice only and what many venders do since traffic does become a serious problem. There was a "5:00 close up rumor" of sorts that made its way around and why everyone was closing up at 5:00 in previous years. There was talk of making ordinances in many areas because about some 7 years ago or so, there was a horrific fatality involving a semi-truck out of control that ran into the crowds in Dunlap. That's how many of these rumors began, and people assumed ordinances were passed for this and that but they were not.

Last but not least, they all do not have to leave at the last day but most do because their leases for their space run out and then and there is a matter of extending insurance from the leasers so they do just get up and go mostly on Sunday.
I hope this clears things up for you and helps you out a lot.
Meanwhile, I will meet you back here in August when I see signs of them setting up and I'll let you know how its going. I do see places already roped off with "for rent" signs up.

MountainAire--thank you for all of your great posts--they are all very informative and will help us newbies greatly....hope to see you there.

To answer your question--as far as vintage or old stuff--I like vintage sewing & kitchen. Also vintage ladies hats, purses, collars. Vintage post cards/cards.

Otherwise, I have far too many interests for my own good and never have a problem finding something.. My daughter and I both are book-a-holics!!!

Vintage......that's easy.......everywhere. You'll never make it out of Dunlap looking at vintage. Ok in Dunlap, vintage and books etc. I'd say to look between Cherry St. and Dell Trail, that area which is right on 127. That's the busy section and has gobs of tables set up with antiques usually right there. Also, that place I told you about which is where you are leaving Dunlap and go under the overpass, it will be the big place on your left. There will be two new looking log cabin buildings there where you would turn in the parking lot. I don't think there is food there by the way. Also without a doubt in Pikeville look for that kind stuff at the Colonial Bed and Breakfast set up. If you like wood crafts by the way, in Dunlap a few blocks up from the little Church has the coolest stuff for holiday decorating and other wood pieces. I have a birdhouse bench from them, birdhouses, and tons of other things that are beautifully made.

As far as finding me, that's easy......I'll be the one with a gallon jug of ice water in one hand and GSD in the other.

This is a picture taken from my truck while stuck in a bit of traffic of the place I was telling you about after you leave Pikeville, the place with the log cabins

This is something you might run into a lot while crusing around. These were taken a couple years back at the WLYS
