Default What is the kindergarten cut-off age for schools in Chattanooga?

We are hopefully relocating from CA back closer to our southern roots....thank you Lord! But my son will be starting Kindergarten here because the cut off is December and I hate for him to get started with Kindergarten and then have to repeat it in TN. I am having trouble finding the cutoff date for TN. Most of the other states have it listed but not Tn. Can anyone help me?!

I think the cut off age is about 35 in Tennessee, although usually by this time people just work on the farm for good. Ha! Couldn't resist.

Talking I had the same question...

I looked it up on the Hamilton County Dept. of Education website and they state "if your child will turn 5 years old before September 30th, you may enroll him/her in kindergarten." They do registration the first week of May.

The website is Hamilton County Tennessee, Department of Education. On the left nav bar click on "Parents" then "Kindergarten Rediness (.pdf)". Hope that helps!

Thank you so much. I was afraid that was the cut off...he will be five on October, 11th! I guess we will have to do private kindergarten. I am sure it is expensive. Oh well. Thanks for your info.

have you considered preschool (majority here are private, church based)...there are more than a few parents here that make the decision to hold their young fives back (summer birthdays for example) when they could actually by law go to kgarten.
