I've checked the newspaper and I don't see any machinist jobs here. Jobs are very scarce here and the pay is way lower than most states, maybe on par with Florida, which is also a low wage state. Your husband may want to apply at VW or one of its suppliers that should be opening soon here in East Brainerd. I'm also a Florida transplant (Fort Lauderdale) and have lived here just under a year now. I'm still loving it here more and more every day.

Lack of Jobs
One of the many reasons we want to move away from Jax/Fl is the lack of employment opportunities around here. While my husband has a decent job and likes what he is doing, I have a horrible, low paying job, that doesn't even come close to teaching. I have tried for a year to find a job teaching, but there is a huge hiring freeze in Duval and surrounding Counties. I know that there is a nationwide job search happening, but I feel moving will help to open a few doors. Like you suggested the VW plant is opening, so there may be something there for him. Also with a new business such as VW the area is bound to grow and develop, creating a greater need for teachers/schools.
I appreciate you looking in the newspaper for me. I will check and see if I can subscribe to the local newspaper there so I can also keep an eye out.

Private System.?
LOST: .I see POTENTIAL here for your transfer, but may need to assign some Homework for your project. .TV news always reports on the state 10% or more budget cuts, which filters down to 10% less teachers, but other articles read board members out recruiting.! Maybe there is shortage of MATH teachers or graduates.? (One year ago price war with Georgia, as teachers left Chatt to teach south of the border)
... Maybe the private schools are the place to search vs the county system.
Very famous BAYLOR Academy here near Signal mtn, but maybe at the HIgh school level . OUt of state / international student mix.? .Believe now 25% of students are in Private network.
.. YES,many out of state families searching for S.E. Tenn. Above info correct with lots of mfg , supplier firms ,spin off with VW assembly plant. While you are here maybe take a look in the Cleveland area.?
.. Scan future church bulletins as a listing source.??
PS. YES, Extra credit for vocal skills that will allow a few to FIT IN .!! .??

just got word of another company expanding here to Enterprise South - hiring 200-300 new positions in the near future. Opportunities abound for those willing to dig.
By the way...did you know Jacksonville is the largest city in the United States?

CountryGal I"m from the exact same places you are mentioning. Was there for 25 sweating hot years.
Tri Dad did you forget rule #1 ???
RULE #1
NEVER, AND I MEAN NEVER.......TRY TO FAKE A TENNESSEE ACCENT
and yalls and yallzes only applies to the valley. Up here on the mountain its "URINES" and that doesn't mean pee pee it means Y O U
and Shovel means Shelbyville
and QUARTER J
means Corridor J the part where 111 connects to 127 and 153

I guess I'll need a class too

We are busy adding an additional class that will teach Floridians how to relax during hurricane season and instead pay attention to tornado warnings (however, if you live in Hamilton County you get to watch the surrounding counties get hit without actually experiencing it firsthand) You'll also learn that it is not necessary to stock up on water and canned goods come June 1st. However, you will learn how to deal with a run on the stores at the first mention of snow.
Believe it or not, there is an active tourist scene in the downtown Chattanooga area. They are easy to identify and quite harmless though. They will be to busy experiencing the wonders and pleasures of the people and sites of Chattanooga to be a nuisance. You may even learn to appreciate the dollars that flow into the city as a result of them visiting.
You will actually enjoy giving them directions to the Aquarium and how to get to Coolidge Park. When riding the CARTA electric shuttle and hearing the driver go into tour mode, you'll learn to just smile as the tourists intently listen and gawk while riding over the Market Street Bridge.

I fall into the category "How to be taken seriously with a NY accent". Let me know when classes start! LOL!
