That is so cool!!!

I guess the closest thing I can relate "Rocky Top" to is, growing up in Rochester, NY we were along the famous(?) Erie Canal. Sooooooo, of course we all had to learn "15 miles on the EriedCanal" in school!!! To this day, I know most of the words and I am 34! I still find myself singing it once in a while!

Here are the lyrics....

I've got a mule, her name is Sal,
15 miles on the Erie Canal
She's a good old worker and a good old pal,
15 miles on the Erie Canal

We've hauled some barges in our day
filled with lumber, coal and hay
And we know every inch of the way from
Albany to Buffalo.

Chorus:
Low bridge, everybody down
Low bridge for we're coming to a town
And you'll always know your neighbor, you'll always know your pal
If you've ever navigated on the Erie Canal.

We better get along on our way ol'gal,
15 miles on the Erie Canal

'Cause you bet your life I'd never part with Sal,
15 miles on the Erie Canal.
Git up there mule, here comes a lock,
We'll make Rome about 6 o'clock
One more trip and back we'll go, right back home to Buffalo.

I know, not TN, but I couldn't help myself!

No offense dear, but I'm glad our daughter won't be learning that one in school!

This might be a good time to bring up the fact that when I pick up my daughter she is talking to her little friends with a beautiful Southern drawl. She immediately changes it when she starts talking to me. I guess she thinks I won't understand her!

It's also funny when she does her reading homework. You have to remember that Southerners are teaching her to read, so she is automatically pronouncing the words with a Southern accent. I love it!
Hi, Hiknapster. My 3 year old granddaughter is talking up a storm. Her Dad is from out west and has a dialect similar to someone from Michigan or Wisconsin. She says some words in his dialect and others with her Mom's southern drawl. So I've been telling everyone that she's bilingual.
