Anyone have an opinion on the schools in Chattanooga?

Both of my parents work for the schools in Chattanooga, and they're not the best. The schools I mean, I love my parents. Chatt. is always having money problems. They're supposed to get a new superintendent soon, so hopefully he can get things to where they need to be. With constant money problems there's a lot of programs that get cut, esp. in the arts. They don't pay the teachers well. Most teachers in the area commute down into GA to get better pay and work with better systems. I could be more specific, but I don't know what your expectations are. I hope this helps.

Does anybody have any info on the private Girls Prep School in Chattanooga? Are the teachers paid reasonably well? Or have the good ones gone down to the private girls school in Atlanta?

GPS is a great school. I don't know about their teachers' salaries, though.

For info on Chattanooga public schools check out www.hcde.org
We have some really great schools in this area and building 2 new ones very soon (Apison and Signal Mtn). I live in an area where the High School zoning is not to my liking so my son will attend a magnet school for those years. We also have some not so good schools. There are always alternatives - even in public education - but it takes some effort on everyone's part to enroll in magnet schools. If you want your child in the "best" school, check out the realty pages and find the most expensive houses... that's where you will find them. I don't know why that is, seems that the lower-income children might need a little more..... Anyway, there's my two (or 52) cents ![]() |
