Thank you! Will definitely look into it myself. Was looking to apply for a production position with them a month or two ago but couldn't figure out where to do it. It's good to know I haven't missed the boat. Really appreciate you posting this.

I heard they already have quite a few applications from people who applied a few months back, so good luck to you all.

VW is hiring mostly, if not all of their production staff from Hamilton county. Also, the applications they took a few months back were for managerial and supervisory positions. They have not accepted applications yet for production jobs.

Here is the article:
Volkswagen officials are bracing for several tens of thousands of applications as the company starts taking online inquiries Oct. 26 for production jobs at its Chattanooga plant.
About 1,200 body and paint shop, welding and assembly posts are up for grabs as the automaker opens applications for three weeks, Oct. 26 to Nov. 15.
"We want everyone to have a fair chance," said Hans-Herbert Jagla, executive vice president for human resources for VW's local operation.
Plans are to hire the initial wave of production workers for the $1 billion plant in the first quarter of next year, he said.
Mr. Jagla said other workers will be brought in over the course of next year and in 2011, when production of a new midsize sedan is to begin.
Workers will start at $14.50 per hour, growing to $19.50 per hour over 36 months, officials said. Also, the company will offer a comprehensive benefits package, they said.
Mr. Jagla said first priority for hiring will be given to Chattanooga and Hamilton County residents.

yeah, why is that pathetic. Seems to me 3 yrs is enough time to see if you are going to stick around and are good at your position. Plus, $5 raise in 3 years is more than most are getting in 5 yrs time. If your company is passing out raises better than that, I want to apply!

Some union jobs start apprentices off at as little as half of full journeyman wages. One to five years later (depending on the trade and and specialties), after completing the apprentice classes and paying the required dues, you will be a full journeyman. You can get much much more than a $5 raise in five years. Of course, once you reach journeyman level, you're now stuck at that basic rate for the rest of your life unless the union negotiates a general raise or unless you go into management.
