Does anybody remember the Chevrolet Citation? If so what were your thoughts on those cars?

I saw one going down the road the other day and about fell out.

I remember the commercial (I think it was Citation) where they towed a car with the rear wheels off to "show off" front-wheel drive.

Yep, I certainly remember the Citation. It was NOT one of the brighter moments in Chevy history.

I see them all the time here... even their cousins... the Olds Omega, Buick Skylark, but I have not seen the Pontiac version (Phoenix) in years.

I pass by a Citation daily... actually that old man hit my aunts 2001 Nissan with it last week and crashed in her doors... it did not even scratch his car. I remember when he bought the car new in 1982. I was very young then though.

Here are some Citation shots from the factory sales books to jog some memories...

1980 Citation (many more to follow..... )

GM was on the right track with these cars... they were nicely styled, nice sized and comfortable cars, but the early models were plagued with alot of problems and recalls... especially the 1980-81 models. I have heard that the later ones were much better, but stick with a 1984-85 model if you ever do buy one. They had much better engines. Some had the optional 2.8L V6 engine, which was actually a pretty good engine (for a 80s GM car).

My brother had a V6 Citation, that thing was hilarious. But it wasnt so hilarious one Sunday night coming home from the Chicago Auto Show and it died on us right on Congress under the Post Office (yes, you drive under the post office). We couldnt get it started and had to sit there for 2 hours for help to arrive. I wasnt thrilled getting home after midnight and then having to wake up to go to work the next morning.

Some of their x-car twins.... (each of the trims had a sporty version available)

1980 Buick Skylark:

1985 Skylark:

1980 Olds Omega:

http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=63698 &g2_serialNumber=2 (broken link)

1982 Omega (this model lasted until 1984) I see a 2-door like this about twice a week
http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=11391 9&g2_serialNumber=2 (broken link)

1980 Pontiac Phoenix (I have not seen one of these in years, as they are much more rare)... we almost bought one in 1984! This model is more like the Citation. The sedan was in hatchback form like the Citation, whereas the Skylark and Omega 4drs were sedans...

Yeah, some of the early V6 models (I think the 80-81 models had a 2bbl carburator that was troublesome. 1982 added fuel injection, which was much more reliable. We had a '81 Olds Omega Brougham with the 2.8L V6 that had carb issues as well.

Citations were IMO junk and one of the reasons why GM now has such a bad rep.

They were the replacement for the Novas, which the Nova was a MUCH better car.

I knew of a guy that had an 81 model with the 2.8 liter V6. It actually was pretty peppy.

My grandfather had one of those 4 door FWD Omegas, last car he owned.

There used to be another thread in this forum over Citations, guess they deleted it.
