Buick and younger crowd are a contradiction of terms
While somewhat true, cars like the 1970-72 GS455 and GSX as well as cars like the 1984-87 Buick Grand National and T-Type Regals were certainly geared more for youth to middle aged that could still handle power without having a heart attack.
Look those cars up, certainly not what gramps would drive. Well maybe if you were a gramps that could handle it.
GM should've kept Pontiac and sold Buick to China (since it's more popular there).
pontiac ws def GM "fun" division they had the solstice 2 seater and the pontiac G8 GT/GXP and if thety would of stayed in business the new Fire bird/Trans-Am would been relased beside the 2010 camaro SS
and if thing stayed in business this could of been the new Trans-Am:
Personally, I think it's a mistake for GM to try to make all cars all things to all people. The Japanese were, in my view, very wise to put upmarket badges on the Infinity, Lexus and and Accura. Just as Chrysler and Ford did with their three levels in the 50-s and 60-s.
GM should ONLY make Buicks for a particular buyer niche, and market styles. amenities and performance features to suit that niche. People who don't want a car that fits the Buick concept can buy a Cadillac or a Chev, instead of the company trying to make a Buick for them, too. If they want to keep on making cars for the younger crowd, they still have lots of Pontiac (which "means excitement") badges in the stockroom, and tons of red paint. When kids grow out of Pontiacs, there will still be Buicks.
Remember the dreadful, embarrassing, obnoxious, nerve-jarring, teeth-pulling, pre-pubescent music used in the 2003 Cadillac breakthrough commercials? What a bunch of marketing idiots. Ooh-yeah ooh yeah.
Marketing a Buick to appeal to a young person is like making Viagra tablets in the shape of Fred Flintstone for the younger crowd! Young people don't want or need either!
If they're going to do badge engineering, I hope they do the 1.4L turbo as the base engine and pick something with more power and torque for the optional engine. A Buick luxuary acceleration should be about the torque with smooth steady acceleration. Going by the looks of the car, a manual shifter should be offered for those who want a bit of fun on the winding roads.
Most sources are reporting that the Verano will have the 1.4T as the base, and the 1.6T as an option.
