Take a look at Antioch. You can get a lot of home for the money. Fox Lake is nice. Schools are OK. Most of the homes are on well/septic. Crystal Lake is very nice. I lived in Algonquin for a few years. I perfered Algonquin over CL. I live in Antioch now, and I love it. Stay away from ROUND LAKE. Hainesville Serious Gang and drug problems. Lakemore is nice, but to close to Round Lake for Me.
Avoid Townhomes! They are a terrible investment in Lake County. When it comes time to sell. You will loose money. Because TH do not increase in value like single family homes. And NO one wants to buy them when you can get a SFH cheaper.
Good Luck

Definately stay away from Round Lake. Schools are bad. Also some gang problems.

Depending where you will be working, traffic is a nightmare in Lake County during rush hour.
