Moving to South burbs and want to Rent
We are planning a move to Chicago area in the very near future. We have two children 7 and 4. Got listings on rentals in Homer Glen, Bollingbrook, Downers Grove, Woodridge, and Naperville. We would like to be close to I-55 and would like to be about 30 to 40 minute from the City. Are these good places to look? Any opions on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I like Naperville in terms of living ... Bolingbrook and Downers Grove seem like decent places to shop, but I'm not sure if I would like to live there. Maybe Downers Grove moreso than Bolingbrook?
These are western suburbs, not southern suburbs. Orland Park is the major Southwestern suburb. Any southwestern or Naperville/DuPage county area suburb will entail a long commute to the Loop.

Orland Park is about 60-75 minute drive by car during rush hour and 45-50 on the Metra of which Orland has 3 stations for. 143rd, 153rd, and 179th and Wolf. Also the Rock Island which goes to Tinley Park (Oak Park Avenue, 80th Avenue) from I think the La Salle St. station, is close to Orland and that ride on the train takes about 45 minutes.
Maybe try looking in Oak Lawn, Burbank or Berwyn. Anyone agree? You can find some nice areas in those towns and all are about 30 minutes away from downtown.

OP is correct search Oak Lawn and Burbank and throw in Evergreen park too. All are affordable, well kept and have good grammar schools. public high schools are above average but you can definitely find better private high schools in the communities. Taxes are extremely reasonable because these 3 collar suburbs generate a huge amount of revenue through their shopping districts that are on the Chicago border. Sales tax, gasoline, cigarettes etc are all 20% lower as soon as you leave the city of Chicago so these collar suburbs take full advantage.
Oak Lawn also has a train stop on the Orland Metra branch. The only complaint I hear about this line is that it is shared with freight traffic and sometimes a freight will block a junction and cause havoc for commuters. The good news is the Metra Rock Island has stops in Beverly only about a mile away and parking is only a buck a day in the Beverly lots.
