I second the craigslist idea. I usually sell furniture within a few days on craigslist. Also, the no 9.5% sales tax is very nice, who wants to pay sales tax on some used furniture in a consignment store, where the price will be jacked up to begin with?

I really think Craig's List is the way to go for used furniture. All you have to do is exchange a few emails and then buyers come to you, with cash, and move the stuff out of your house for you. It's a pretty good deal on both ends. If you're going to split the selling price with a consignment store anyway, why not just ask for half as much right away and get someone to come to you and take it?

I have sold so much furniture on CL as we've gone through and decorated our house. I really can't imagine a store being any easier than CL.

Yes, CL can work but only if you're ready to sell your furniture for peanuts...

I sell a bunch of stuff on the facebook garage sale pages. Search titles such as Lincoln Park buy and sell, or Berwyn garage sale or Wheaton Glen Ellyn garage sale. These are just examples. I've sold everything I have put up there. I sold some white couches within a half hour, my fireplace tools in five minutes and some cupcake sprinkles in five minutes or less. Each item had multiple buyers.

I think its safer than Craigslist. I found that most people were basically neighbors but I did not know them. You do have to join the pages in order to post.
