TBH I don't think the small metro areas even have official suburbs.

I disagree with the "south of I-80" designation. Homewood, Flossmoor, most of Lansing, Hazel Crest, CCH, Chicago Heights, et.al. are all south of I-80 and are hardly in "the boonies".

I know, right? North Side arrogance.

Naperville are Waukegan are further away from the city limits than those towns!

At one time they probably were more so, years ago.

Today as I-55 cross I-80 by Joliet it is still a bit more like this.

Not in my 24 year lifetime. Those areas have always been suburbia.

And what do you mean "more so"? There's NOTHING "boonie" about it.

Joliet is southwest. And if you looked at a map, you'd notice that in the southwest, I-80 is a lot further south. It curves upward when you get over to the southeast in the areas we're talking about..

That's besides the point. I'm from the south suburbs of Chicago and not the boonies. In my lifetime, those areas have always been suburbia.

Yes they have-but you can't claim that you know this entirely from life experience.
