Smile Romeoville near I55 and Weber (by fire station on Normantown Road)

Hi everyone,

Is anyone familiar with the neighborhood behind the fire station located near Normantown Road and Birch Lane in Romeoville? The subdivision is called Greenhaven, brand new construction duplexes, but homes have been for sale for more than a year.

Just wondering if this would be a safe complex for a single girl to buy in (e.g., is this a high crime area, or any gang activity/graffiti, etc.)? It is only about a block south of I55, and a few blocks east of Weber so kind of concerned about the area ... any info about this location would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much!

It's a somewhat sketchy area. Not the worst around but I personally wouldn't live there.

Hi, if I were you, I'd spend a few hours in the area during the evening, to get a feel for the noise level as well as to see if there is any activity that you would not want.

Also, I'd talk to the people who are not selling to get their feel for the neighborhood.

Last, but not least, I'd call a non-emergency Romeoville police department number and ask them about the crime.

Thanks for the info (TempesT68 too), I plan to do what you suggest. The house is right by the fire station so I thought of asking them about the area, but the neighbors and police are good ideas too. Any other info anyone has about this part of Romeoville would be greatly appreciated!

I agree with the poster who said sorta sketchy. It's not terrible, you'd probably be safe but there's better places to live for the price. Maybe look in Bolingbrook, closer to things and same prices. I personally think even parts of Aurora near 59 would be better.

Thanks for the info, I guess I thought it wasn't a great area, so really appreciate the info.

It should also be noted that traffic in the area is HORRENDOUS! Weber Road is the main N/S thoroughfare for Romeoville, Bolingbrook and about 5 other suburbs. Trying to merge onto I55 from there is a nightmare! Not only that, but I55 itself is backed up from Weber, most of the way into downtown, starting as early as 6:00 AM. Until the infrastructure is improved in the area, I'd stay away.
