and it is part of a much larger area of Northwest Evanston that has an own-little-world feel. Basically all of northwest Evanston looks like an upscale version of a Norman Rockwell town, with very little changed since 1940. The south part of Northwest Evanston has the most modest homes, the least amount of change, and the fewest teardowns, so it has the most distinctive feel in NW Evanston. A little farther north, the area just off Central Street, especially along Hartzell and Harrison streets, and on the side streets connecting these, has a similar (but more affluent) atmosphere.

Another distinctive area is the McKenzie School area of Wilmette, between Ridge and Green Bay Roads. That is where I live and it has a large concentration of pre-1900 farmhouses, although there are a lot of teardowns too.

Finally, northeast Wilmette (north of Lake and east of Green Bay) has an own-little-world feel if you can afford it; even in today's depressed market, houses start around $1 million and go up - way up.

Not nearly as many as those making the claim. Country club developments for sure, Del Webb communities, those near certain Metra stations not named after the city or road. Examples of the latter include Medinah, Cumberland, Indian Hill and especially Prairie Crossing.

Our neighborhood, Lake Arlington is its "own little world". This is because it was built later than the only adjoining neighborhood, Arlington Vista, and because of the roads and natural barriers cutting it off from any other neighborhoods. It looks different than any nearby neighborhood because of when it was built and how it was built.

A few neighborhoods in Monee are their own little world. Mine is pretty isolated from the rest of town. Nothing is in reasonable walking distance except for a creek. It's very woodsy, quiet and mostly retired folks. It's comparable to the Thorn Creek neighborhood in Park Forest about 10-15 minutes away from here but smaller and has even less of an urban feel. If there ever was any crime, people in my neighborhood would prabobly assume I had something to do with it. Mostly people mind their own business and in that sense, it's nothing like what I've heard of in other similar type areas.

When my mom and stepdad got married, they wanted to move to the woods so that's essentially what they did. A friend of the family lives right by here. That was five years ago and they've split up recently. Me and my mom are gonna be moving into a condo in downtown Homewood. I was thinking about trying to get my own place and I even found an option in Richton Park with the money I'm making now. But I'm gonna get my car all paid off first.

As the saying goes... I just live here. lol. What you do with your life, the company you keep and the places you go tells more about you than the place you didn't even choose to live. I'm a product of my environment and I'm a product of my hometown of Park Forest more than Monee.

What exactly do you mean by a product of Park Forest?

It's where I grew up and was public schooled. Even when I was living in Monee after high school, I was still learning about the world hanging out in Park Forest. I really don't mean anything specific, really..
