You won't go wrong moving to either, but I would give the nod to Oak lawn, as oak lawn holds an ace over all the other sw suburbs. They pump the water to burbs as far west as mokena, and they charge an arm and a leg to the other burbs for their service. They are also 20 minutes closer to downtown than tinley and have more school choices than andrew or tinley park high. You can send your kids to Brother Rice, McCauley, Marist, St Laurence, or Queen of Peace with the money you save in taxes and water bills.

I live in the south west burbs with water provided by Oak Lawn and my water bills run between $35-$75 a month depending on how much I water my lawn. Is that bad? I\'m not trying to be a smart a$$ here. I never thought it was bad to pay that, but now I\'m curious what Oak Lawn is paying because now I\'m feeling a little ripped off here?
Also the extra schools that are mentioned are private schools of which also allow enrollment from southwestern burbs and Mt. Carmel wasn\'t mentioned that I saw yet I constantly see Mt. Carmel letterman jackets worn by the kids around Tinley and Orland both. But yes private is another option with schooling but can get hit with higher tuitions.

Tinley's a decent suburb but let's not get carried away here. It is about 95% white caucasian and hardly diverse, unless you mean diversity in make and model of newer SUV. I think everyone's hitting it pretty well. If you want a more diverse urban environment, Oak Lawn is going to be the best choice. I wouldn't call Oak Lawn "urban" per se but certainly more so than Tinley. If you want standard and safe whitebread suburbia, Tinley Park carries the day. Just be sure to pick a neighborhood served by Andrew High School. It has a better reputation than Tinley Park High.

One of the big reasons for our move is not wanting to pay for a private school and we have heard great things about Andrew Highschool. How does Richards and Shepard highschool compare to Andrew?
thanks!!

no comparison, while shepard and richards are good, they can not hold a candle to Andrew. Andrew has a better gym, campus, learning atmosphere and teachers.

To be honest with you, Andrew High School has been rated one of the best high schools in the Chicagoland area. Do the research yourself, all of district 230\'s schools are far superior when it comes to both academics and athletics compared to many other schools in IL. The community within D-230 has a strong economic tax base pumping millions of dollars a year into it\'s school district, so rest assured Andrew\'s existance in the 230 district allows ample funding for the school\'s academics and athletics. You won\'t go wrong in any 230 school to be honest. District 230 not to mention that you will also be in Moraine Valley\'s school district too which is an excellent jr. college. I want to thank you all for your input on this decision i have to make. What really makes it hard is i have most of my family and Friends in the Oak Lawn area but I'm 100 percent for making the right decision based on raising my kids. I know moving out to Tinley will add 20 minutes to mine and my wifes commute and will eat up more gas and going back and forth from Tinley to Oak Lawn to my parents will eat up gas and money. So then i think well do save what that cost might add up move to Oak Lawn near S.T Linus and send my daughter to Marist and my son to Richards who is well known for having a good football program and now much improved baseball or do i Just move to Tinley which in my opinion is more suburban like and from what i understand a great park district and save the 50k it would have cost me to send my daughter to Marist. Hmm tuff desicions. If i had to say i'm leaning toward tinley right now. I have about 6 months to decide so that will give me plenty of time to decide.
