I live in Mt. Greenwood, my daughter goes to a private Oak Lawn school, and I work in a school in Oak Forest. If it were me, I'd be moving to Tinley! Definitely!

OK, I respect your choice MrsMimi, but can you elaborate?

And Oak Lawn isn't "cookie cutter" ??? LOL!!!! You've got to be kidding me! It's just older "cookie cutter" The town is loaded with old post war era homes built for people coming back after world war II. The other half of the town is loaded with brick bungalows and georgian style two story homes like you would see in Chicago. Some of the stuff built in the 1960s and 70s consists of tri-levels and as Porky Pig would say... "Yibida yibida yibida, thats all folks." Here's your typical Oak Lawn house. http://www.swchicago.com/oaklawn.jpg And another of my favorite Oak Lawn style beauties... http://www.excelwindows.com/homesgallery/mcdermot.jpg My look at the originality there.
I'm not saying Tinley is exactly "unique" either but at least you can find plenty of homes built in the last decade that don't look like every other house on the block. I know that this is just another typical cookie cutter style subdivision style house, but at least it is nice and new looking. http://www.mlsni.com/photos/property/736/06577736.jpg

Some people do prefer nice and old looking. That's why cities like Chicago or Boston are generally considered to be much more charming then cities like Phoenix or Atlanta. Also, as for your last picture in Tinley, you'll find a lot of homes like that in Oak Lawn today. The difference is, they are tear downs and built right up to the lot line, so you won't really have any kind of yard, but you can find plenty of those new homes here.

Yup tear downs are going on in earnest, as in Burbank, but who wants to live in the burbs with a single family dwelling and have no yard??? Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose? I've never really understood that when I drive through those two towns My thoughts are, just live in Chicago if you don't want a yard. There are plenty of nice areas in Garfield Ridge, Clearing, or the Midway area that will offer very charming homes with no yard.

Oak Lawn Sucks!
Oak Lawn is NOT where you want to move. Unless you like crime. There is a one-to-one ratio of cops to firemen. Oak Lawn also likes to 'forget' about more serious crimes when reporting in the blotters. They report retail thefts and exclude home invasions. How do I know? I live 2 blocks form the police dpet and I have been terrorized in my home by teenagers for the last 4 years! First eggs, then paint balls, then graffiti, and this week they graduated to robbery. Yes my house was broken into. 2 blocks from the PD for 4 years. Tinley Park gets my vote!
