Is hanging doorhangers considered soliciting? And is doing so considered trespassing (getting to one's front door is not possible without entering their land property)?

as long as you are not actually ringing their doorbells, it is ok. If they have no trespassing signs or no solicitor signs, just skip their house. don't ever put anything in a mailbox! To be extra safe, just check the municipality that you are walking in for their local ordinances.

We have a "no soliciting" sign, and we get flyers all the time. I don't consider it the same thing, because you aren't knocking on my door and bothering me.

Be aware that a No Trespassing sign means you cannot step foot on the property period for any purpose. Your only means to reach those people are via the USPS or telephone but you need to check the do not call directory.

In Aurora you would have to register, even if for charitable endeavors.
In Aurora you would be in violation of the law if there is a sign to the contrary as follows:

City of Aurora Code Section 32-7 provides that “No person
shall distribute, deposit, place, throw, scatter or cast
any commercial or noncommercial handbill upon any
premises if requested by anyone thereon not to do so, or
if there is placed on such premises, in a conspicuous position
near the entrance thereof, a sign bearing the words
“No Trespassing”, “No Peddlers or Solicitors”, “No Advertisement”,
“No Unsolicited Newspapers” or any similar notice
indicating in any manner that the occupants of such
premises do not desire to have their right of privacy disturbed,
or to have any such items left upon such premises.”
A violation of the Code is punishable by a fine not to exceed
$1,000 and the violator may be banned from peddling,
soliciting or otherwise doing business in the City of
Aurora for up to one year.

Politicians are excluded in general, but even political free speech cannot trump a No Trespassing sign.

To be safe, check with the governing municipality for the final say on this. Some cities and towns are more strict in their enforcement ... but all it takes is one disgruntled resident to complain to stir-up a call by the police, should there be a ruling prohibiting this in any area. Take the right approach to this and check it out ...
