I could tell you what mine are, but you'd probably keel over.

But do you want to know what you neighbors are paying/ Go here: Cook County Assessor's Office

Get a PIN number from a property that's similar to yours in your immediate neighborhood.

Now take that PIN and go here: :: Cook County Treasurer's Office - Chicago, Illinois ::

And you can find out what your neighbors are paying, info on how to understand your tax bill, etc.

Right?! I can't believe how much we're paying out here in the south suburbs! Our public schools stink and the housing market has sunk to an all-time low.

The median property tax bill in calumet city was $2,876.76 for last year. Calumet city is in the bottom 20 percent for median property tax bills in all of cook county. And this includes all of the city of chicago neighborhoods also. Median home values in calumet city were at $138,600 as of the 2009 american home US census survey.

Here in Thornton, my property tax bill was $3,496.21 for last year. My assessed value was $127,830. I don't know how that compares to all of Cook County or the city of Chicago, but I do think it's way too high! I doubt that my well-maintained home would sell for its assessed value, but please feel free to make me an offer. Maybe Calumet City is paying less, since they have the mall?

Because it's a terrible place and residents want to get out of there. If they can, they leave without even selling their house. Have you ever even been to Ford Heights?
