With a budget of $900k you could probably buy entire blocks listed in one of the above posts. I doubt any sane person would barely rate the schools tolerable, certainly not "excellent".

For a dual income couple, one heading towards the Loop and the other toward O'Hare the most desirable town in your price range would almost certainly be Park Ridge, though parts of Elmhurst would also ne excellent.

Western Springs is another excellent option, as would be Hinsdale and the neighboring town of Clarendon Hills, the most desirable portions of which share it's top rated D181 and D86 schools.

Alright thanks! Those look a lot closer to both of our jobs. I'll check them out!

Look at Glenview & Northbrook areas in the Glenbrook North/South school districts. They are 15 min from OHare and have stops on the metra line to downtown.

Do not listed to Goober guy, this poster just posted a whole list of south suburbs that do not fall into what you are looking far. There are wonderful southern suburbs, but for your request I would recommend looking into the following:

Northwest suburbs
Arlington Heights
Park Ridge

Western Burbs
Elmhurst
Hinsdale
Clarendon Hills

Northern Suburbs
Deerfield
Northbrook

To have 900K for a house will go a far way in Chicagoland. My husband might be looking for a job in California and yikes! Our budget is much lower than yours, but we would be looking at an hour away from the city at min to have a house and our income is over 100K!
