Default Dog parks in Evanston/Oak Park

My husband and I are considering relocating to Oak Park or Evanston and we are hoping one of the two areas has a decent dog park for our Chocolate Lab. Can anyone tell me the basic streets on which I might find a dog park? We'll be there this weekend and would like to check them out (since we don't have kids yet, this is like checking out the schools ahead of time!) Also does either suburb have a trader joe's, whole foods, or wild oats type store?

The Oak Park park district recently opened up a dog park. Here's the link

Park District of Oak Park

There's a Whole Foods in River Forest, located about 40 feet from the Oak Park city limits. Trader Joes will be opening in Oak Park later this year (can't wait), and its about two blocks from Whole Foods.

Evanston has a Dog Beach north of Church Street at the Lakefront (Sheridan road) open 7a-8p May thru Oct. for Evanston dogs. I don't have a dog, but I enjoy walking by there and seeing the dogs having a blast. Also there is the Pooch Park-- an Evanston and Skokie dog recreation area open 5a-10p daily at 3200 Oakton Street in Skokie.

Evanston has Whole Foods and Wild Oats. The nearest Trader Joe's is about 20 minutes away in Northbrook and there's another in Glenview.

Good luck with your move.

There are two Whole Foods in Evanston. There's one downtown on Chicago between Church and Davis and a second one (formerly Wild Oats) on Chicago across from Jewel Osco. IME the second one is a lot less congested than the one on Davis -- both the parking lot and the interior of the store. Also, there are plans for a Trader Joe's in Evanston..don't know about the timeline, though.

Our pooch loves the dog beach. If you plan to visit this weekend, you'll have no problem walking on the beach. You do, however, have to purchase a token to gain access to the dog beach once the spring/summer season begins.

The dog beach in Evanston is neat. I don't have a dog, but sometimes I go there just to watch the dogs running around. Definitely check it out.
