Default Moving to Libertyville

Hi,

I am relocating to Libertyville for a job. I am looking for suggestions in good, clean and safe neighborhoods to live around Libertyville. I am moving from Texas so it is going to be a huge move for me. I'd love thoughts on moving to the area with regards to weather and some essentials to face the extreme winter here.

Thanks

Libertyville is a very nice suburb with an almost Wisconsiny small town feel. I cannot think of a place that is not safe in the town. If you live and work in Libertyville, that is perfect! I do know some who commute downtown and that is a very long commute.
The area has excellent schools, a little downtown on Milwaukee Ave, and a metra. Also Vernon Hills a little south has all the shopping you will need.
Best of luck on your move!

As for clothing for winter - think layers. It's really not that hard. You will need a good pair of snow boots and a heavy jacket. I currently live in the Houston area, but lived in the Chicago area for over 30 years and loved it.

Thanks for your replies guys. I am a young professional without a family, so are there any good, fun areas that are not that far from Libertyville?

I personally would love to live downtown but I am not ready for a hard commute.
Thanks again for the replies, I appreciate it.

To be honest, not really. Libertyville is more geared towards the family environment. Now there is Six flags and Gurnee Mills 10 minutes away. The best suburbs for young professionals in my opinion for nightlife would be the following:
Evanston, Naperville, St. Charles

All these downtowns have lots of restaraunts and bars geared more towards youth. Don't know if Evanston has a line that goes up to Libertyville.

Nonetheless, Vernon Hills south of Libertyville hsa a lot of bar chain restaraunts geared toward younger individuals

Actually Libertyville has a pretty good selection for pubs/bars in their downtown area---Notably Mickey Finns, Austins Fuel Room (live bands with huge stage), Morgans, The Tavern and Firkin----Firkin which just was named one of America's top 150 beer bars and Chicago Managzine included it in the top 100 bars in Chicago and the Chicago metro area.

You might as well live in Libertyville, if you can find a place there that suits your needs. It is a very nice community with plenty of after-hours fun for a young professional. Even though it is a family-oriented town, it is balanced out with a good number of pubs and eateries. There is a Metra stop if you want to take the train to downtown Chicago.

You know what, Lake County Lifer and Nico7 are correct, chalk it up to me being an old foogy. I forgot about those places. Long story short, Libertyville is a great suburb with an excellent quality of life living. Best of luck on your move!

Libertyville has great bars (Mickey Finns, Fuel Room). I moved here from downtown Chicago for a job, too.

When I was house hunting I liked Cook Apartments, it's in the heart of down town Libertyville, close to the stores and bars and a lot of transplants (young professionals).

The only reason I didn't move there was because rent is about $1,000 for a two bedroom apartment, and I didn't need that much space. So if you can find a room mate I would highly recommend that area.

Also if you want to learn more about the area, check out a local news site: Libertyville.Patch.com

Good luck!
