We've been looking for a house for a few months now (was under contract in the beginning of January but that fell through), and I think we've found another house we're seriously considering.

Can anyone tell me their impression of the Busse Rd/Golf area of Mount Prospect - specifically the neighborhood on the SW corner? We've lived in an apartment complex very close for the past 2 years (S of Algonquin on Busse Rd) so we know the basics about the general area, but I was wondering if anyone had any details (crime, schools, etc.)

Thanks in advance, any help would be appreciated

Historically the Mt. Prospect PD has had more calls for the apartments than the single family developments. Coupled with the better schools closer to the core and the wide spread preferences for homes built in an era when charm was higher priority you can get a better deal in the areas sout of Golf and west of Busse, but you may see greater appreciation closer to the core.

If you get a big enough discount that could make it so that the trade offs are worth it, you might be wise to check out things that could be long term negatives -- O'Hare approach patterns impact some neighborhoods on the south end of town pretty strongly, but if rent nearby you probably know that. In some areas it might be bad enough to limit your use of backyard...

Thanks Chet. As you stated, we're used to the loud airplanes, and although I dislike it, the house itself seems like a good enough value to justify the location. We like the area closer to downtown but for the money we have, we wouldn't be able to get a house that meets our requirements.

Can anyone else chime in about the single family home neighborhood southwest of Busse Rd and Golf?
