Default moving to Chicago in August, suggestion needed.

Hi,

I got a job and need to move to Chicago area, the company is in Northfield, and I have a 6 year old son. I am looking for an apartment in suburb area with good school and close to work, could anyone give me some suggestions?
Thank you.

You can try Evanston. The apartments are really expensive. A nice place in downtown Evanston can run you $3000/month for a 1 or 2 bedroom. Evanston has pretty good schools. They are good for some and nightmares for others. Evanston is pretty diverse but still segregated. Wilmette is really nice. Shorter commute to Northfield and better schools than Evanston. Downside is that you are going to have to probably rent a house in West Wilmette for maybe $2,500. You will get Romona Elementary, Highcrest Middle, and Wilmette Jr. High. Depending on how long you are here New Trier High School is considered to be among the best high schools in the state. If you are a single parent do not come to the North Shore. The North Shore is very snooty. If you don't have the money for the Mercedes or BMW and the cute D&G shoes that everyone must have do not even bother looking to reside here. If you cant do this try lake county suburbs like Buffalo Grove and Lincolnshire. Lincolnshire schools are among the best in the state.
