My husband and I will be relocating to Florida mid-September, and we would like to have our minivan shipped down to us.
Does anyone have recommendations on a company that will ship the van down on a car carrier? Thx in advance. |

My encouragement to you is to first find out the license fee and tax laws on a car being imported to Florida. What I relate, now, is not your situation. However, on the surface, Florida seems like they want to pick one's pocket.
From eBay motors, we bought a very nice vehicle from Florida. And since we live in Illinois, we decided to ask questions very carefully. IF one buys a Florida car with the purpose of driving it out of state, personally, then Florida - - as a temporary license plate fee - - charges their sales tax rate for the temporary license plate. So if the sales tax of Florida is 6%, for example, then the temporary license plate costs you 6% of your purchase price for the vehicle. Now Florida claims that you can retrieve that amount of money when the car is registered in YOUR state. "Maybe yes, maybe, no". Does Illinois recognize that Florida fee as Florida's sales tax or merely the cost of one's temporary Florida license plate? There's a difference. So make completely sure by asking very specific questions of both states, before you get stung with an $800 temporary license plate fee from the state of Florida. Perhaps you will never get your $800 back. I am not saying 'yes' or 'no' on this. However, I AM saying that you should check into it very carefully. |

He's close. If you move to Florida from Illinois and take you car with you, you'll be fine. I think it will only cost you $170.00. Florida does not have a use tax. Now if you live in Florida, and you move to Illinois, you have to pay Illinois use tax when you register the car in Illinois.
I know this stuff because I plan to move from Chicago and have been looking at these things. I don;t feel like paying 7% sale tax on the car and then another 7,75% in use taxes. That's like 7500.00 on a $30,000.00 If anyone is picking pockets, it's Illinois. Have a great day! William Last edited by mdz; 08-04-2007 at 11:06 AM..
