There is now a town-home community on the site of Holiday Park.

It was located on Route 134, just east of US-12

Holiday park had 2 sides I believe. One side was a metal slide and the other had a huge slide that you would go down on a wooden board.

Gowe Beach in Gurnee fits the bill---as does Lake Minear in Libertyville. Both are wooded with water slides.

The neat thing is that in spite of the fact that it is now a private lake surrounded by homes (like so many of the lakes in IL that I grew up around) Holiday Park still exists in those of us who remember it, enjoy the memories, and create posts about it! Those abandoned childhood areas still exist through us!. Keep them going. Thanks.

We used to go to a beach in the 1960's in Crystal Lake and for some reason the name that I'm coming up with is Silver Lake. Silver Lake in Crystal Lake. I grew up on the NW side of Chicago and thought it was the longest trip ever to get there.

When my kids were little I used to take them to Lake Minear in Libertyville and Paulus Park Beach in Lake Zurich. I think both of those have been around for a while.

oh man! Phil's beach was so much fun! remember the water wheel -you would try to walk to stay on then eventually fall into the water? what about the round thing, that looked like a bulls eye and you would try to hang on, but it dipped into the water. The big slide that curved up on the end -so it would shoot you up into the air....so much fun!

I have great memories of holiday park. Shredded suits from the water slides. Bumps and bruises. Great food family and friends. That was a great staple of my childhood. I wish it was still there to share with my son.
Thanks for the flash back.
