Default Schaumburg or Willowbrook?

My wife and I are moving back to the Chicago area (used to live in Oak Park) and are now considering whether to move to Schaumburg or Willowbrook. We've found some nice Lincoln Properties apartments in both Schaumburg and Willowbrook, but we know little about the areas. Which would be the better place to live? We have no kids, don't care about nightlife, we just want a safe pleasant living environment. Thanks.

Hiya sox,

I've lived in Schaumburg for the last four years, great eats all over the place here. Wholefoods will apparently be opening here in about another year. Any shopping you can imagine is available in Schaumburg. Great access to expressways, ok access to metra trains. Where will you be working? What kind of house are you looking for?

The most interactive website I've found for searching real-estate is Zip Realty's map search. Although I would caution against using their agents. I'd be jealous if you found a house that backs up to one of the nature preserves here. They're gorgeous, but don't let your cat out if you have one, the coyotes will eat it.

Schaumburg feels safe all around, but there are some obnoxious neighbors in the townhome community's, lots of empty nesters, and more and more young families moving from Chicago.

Hope this info helps, good luck with your move!!

Thanks for the reply, Save La'au.

The office I'm working at is in Lombard near I-355 and 88. I realize Willowbrook is closer, but it doesn't matter since I won't be in the office much (work from home 2 days a week). We're looking at apartments to start off, and in 2 years moving into a home. My wife is sold on Lincoln Properties, and we've seen 2 properties, 1 in Schaumburg near Algoninquin and Meacham.. and 1 in Willowbrook near Kingery Highway and 63rd, which look perfect and have been getting great reviews. I think right now we're leaning toward Schaumburg. Love the idea of living near forest preserves; we'll just have to keep an eye on the cat.

Hi there,

I lived at Meacham + Algonquin in International Village for a long time and I loved it. That complex and the Tree House Apartments are both nice complexes - GREAT area - SO close to everything and still a relatively safe neighborhood.
I've never been to Willowbrook so I cant' compare, but I just wanted to give my opinion on Schaumburg - specifically the area near that intersection. It's a great area and I think you'd really like it.
