Lake in the Hills to Wheeling commute? Geneva?
Curious what kind of driving commute it would be from Lake in the Hills to Wheeling? How about to Geneva?

Please is there anyone familiar with traffic between Lake in the Hills/Crystal Lake and Wheeling? I've heard it's mostly service roads, no good way via interstate, but I need to know about how long it would take at about 6am and 3pm? Mapquest is of no help because their times are never right anyway. Any help would be very greatly appreciated.

Im not sure about the traffic from Crystal Lake to Wheeling, but between CL and Geneva, along Randall Rd, expect 45 minutes, give or take.

Wow that's longer than I thought, but I have been hearing over and over that Randall Rd is a nightmare, so I can't be that surprised! Thanks!

Randall isnt that horrible. The traffic is medium to heavy, but its all the stop lights between South Elgin and Crystal Lake that become a killer. Add to that booming suburbs all along the road and you have a recipe for crap. There are some stretches (ie before Algonquin and after St. Charles) that are open with no lights, which allows one to make up some good time.

I posted on your other thread, but this commute is going to be tough. Lake in the Hills / Algonquin itself is a nightmare to get out of - whether you're on Randall or 62, it's not pretty.
Some of the route in between won't be TOO bad, but then as soon as you get near Palatine/Buffalo Grove you will be real congested again - not to mention there's a ton of lights, commerce, etc to hold you up.
No matter what time of day, this will be a good hour + 15, hour + 20 one way.

Lake in the Hills to Geneva will be MUCH shorter. You can get down Randall to Geneva TOPS 30 minutes, even with traffic. It's not far whatsoever.
I drove Randall for years in rush hour and it IS congested (esp around 90, etc) but it also moves quickly.
If you have to chose, go to Geneva from LITH, NOT WHEELING.

Oh boy, over an hour I'd say. I commuted from Algonquin to Northbrook (which is pretty much the same distance) for the past several months and I hated it. I tried numerous alternate route to no avail. A good day would be 50 min, but most times at least an hour, more like an hour & 10 min (after work was the worst).

Yikes! Well thank you for your honest feedback----I guess we will really have to think about it. I can only hope the earlier times would help a little bit since it won't techinically be peak rush hour traffic. We'll see though, I guess we'll just have to do a few run throughs during those times to see. Thanks so much!!!
