Default Tornado sirens in New Lenox

I just got off the phone with a friend in New Lenox who said the tornado sirens just started. He got his dog and is headed to the basement. Be careful out there tonight, south suburbs!

Sirens went off here too. NWS warnings said the whole Chicago area is/was affected. We had a large wind gust, but that was it.

We had what seemed close to a tornado here in Lake Bluff, craziest weather I've seen yet. Our power went out pretty quick, not likely to get it back before the AM I'm sure.

Some people down the street decided to fire up the grill and put those full fridges and freezers to good use!

The sirens went off here (Naperville) too. The weather doppler looked dire and we got several WeatherBug alerts, but other than 10 minutes of fairly intense wind, not much. It hit about 8:20 (I know because we were anxiously awaiting our daughter's return home, LOL) but fizzled out pretty quickly.

Streets here are a disaster this morning, tree limbs everywhere and most of the traffic signals are still out. No word on when we'll get power back but it took them 2 days last summer.

At least it's only 70 degrees and not 90 degrees. It would suck to be without power on a hot summer day. Here, we lost power for about a second, but that was it. Very fortunate to have undergound utilities.

Funny thing is even if you did not pay attention to the weather reports yesterday- You knew something was brewing in the mid afternoon

The atmosphere was primed

Looks like the northern burbs got hit the worst
I was over in Lemont today and limbs were down but no other damage that i saw.

My senior citizen parents who live a few blocks from Midway lost power around 8:45 pm last night. I was worried about them, but thankfully, it came back on around 3:30 am. I feel bad for all those still without power.

I lived in Chicago for 18 years, and I can count on one hand the number of times the power went out (and only once do I remember it going out for more than an hour (last year in Lincoln Square when a car hit a utility pole)). I moved to Hinsdale at the end of January of this year, and the power has gone out 5 times since then (and twice for more than 8 hours). I understand that it was unavoidable to lose power after last night's storm. But I think I'm snake bit now.

Paranoid, I bought a power generator this morning. Of course, as soon as I get it up and running, our power was restored (not that I'm complaining -- there are still a TON of people without power, and they definitely have it the worst). Nevertheless, I'm sure I'll get a chance to use it again really soon (unfortunately).

Simply more large trees likely to fall on power lines. With utility lines in Chicago alleys there are few trees large enough to do damage.

The generator is always a good idea. If I move to the burbs a backup full house generator will be on my shopping list.
