Since I think of Wheaton as "Snoresville" it's probably a nice fit for you tireddad. It reminds me of a Florida retirement community without the palm trees.

I have a Master's in Clinical Psych from Wheaton College (went there for the opportunities it afforded for doing psychology/theology integration work, not because I'm evangelical protestant myself) ... the influence of the college on the town of Wheaton is not nearly as Ned Flandersish as you might think, many of the students and faculty at Wheaton are "Sojourners" type evangelicals, committed to social justice as well as green issues. We had quite a few Wheaton undergrads who would come to our Eastern Orthodox church over the years and there were quite a few with body piercings, weird hairdos, and tramp stamps. Think Rod and Tod on the Simpsons in their rebellious college years. The Wheaton College administration and the alumni on the other hand are real hard core types; the College has fired employees for converting to Roman Catholicism or Eastern Orthodoxy (not *real* Christians, you see).

I agree with ChummyWaters, Wheaton for many will be a snooze-fest, though Glen Ellyn next door is even worse. Not my cup of tea, but you know what, there's plenty of variety in the suburbs so there's something for everyone (except those who prefer living in the Big City, of course).

The OP seemed to indicate that they have spent time checking out the resturants, shops, parks and library. One man's snooze fest is another's ideal spot ...
