Crest Hill is mostly run down and old housing. I don't want to scare you away but there are better options.

Did you even bother to see what this part of Joliet/Crest Hill looked like? It's newer run of the mill suburbia housing that so many people pine for.

Elizabeth avenue is mostly ugly multi-family housing. I suppose if your definition of run down is compared against Naperville, then yes.

At that point of Crest Hill, you're pretty much heading into Shorewood. The only truly crappy point of Crest Hill is nearest to Broadway, like right up on it.

There is more then one "crappy" area of Crest Hill, drive down 30 for one. If you are looking for a better suburb go to Plainfield, Romeoville, Bolingbrook, Lockport, Shorewood, and parts of Joliet.

My son lived in Crest Hill for a year, about a decade ago, and never mentioned any problems.

Maybe Crest Hill is the only option. Do you realize people can afford what they can afford? not everyone can move to Plainfield...
My mom lives there, my sisters go to Lockport, the area is fine.

I live in crest hill by broadway, I would not say its run down over here, but there are a few houses that need fixin up! this is the oldest part of crest hill, most of the houses were built in late1930s and the 1940s but they is alot of newer homes being built!!

I live near and work in Crest Hill. It is changing and growing. While, like any community, it has its unsavory areas, there are also many very nice areas of Crest Hill. There are brand new subdivisions that are being develeped that are very close to theaters, restaurants and shopping. Richland School District 88a is a great district that has a 6 rating on greatschools.org (comparable to most Plainfield Schools). There are several new businesses set to be built and developed along Weber Road including a new library. I would recommend living in Crest Hill to anyone. The town somehow merges urban, suburban and rural living all in one town! I would, however, not recommend living in the area that falls within the Chaney School district. While there are many lovely homes in that area, and the area around the school feels a lot like a blue color Chicago neighborhood, the school system is horribly underfunded and the crime is usually centered around that area.
