I get the attraction of Chicago; I was younger and single once. But, believe it or not, there are millions of us in the suburbs who not only DO NOT die of boredom, but really enjoy our lifestyle. We do not have to "put down" others preferences to feel good about ourselves or justify to ourselves that "we really are cool".
I've lived in suburbs believe me, it's boring. And thanks for calling me young!

Any suggestions on what towns that aren't too far of a commute for him? I am a stay at home mom so I want to make sure there are plenty of things for us to do. Right now we are going to rent our house out and rent another house in the Chicago area for about a year or so. I'd like the rent to be around the $1500 range, give or take.
If working in Lake Forest, I would consider nearby towns including: Deerfield, Highland Park,Libertyville, Vernon Hills, Lincolnshire, Buffalo Grove and Arlington Heights. Not sure if you will find $1500 rentals in these place.

And I lived in the city and believe me, it's noisy, dirty, congested, dangerous at times and claustrophobic
