Im looking for a cabin to rent for a weekend. I dont want it too far from the chicago or northwestern suburbs so what are some places that may have cabins? I looked at some sites but they are all 2 hour plus drives.

More cottages than cabins, but Delavan is only about an hour from O'Hare.. Delavan Lake Vacation Rental - VRBO 282662 - 2 BR Southeast Cottage in WI, Waterfront Cottage on Delavan Lake (http://www.vrbo.com/282662 - broken link)

Twin Lakes and Powers Lake are a little bit further: Twin Lakes Vacation Rental - VRBO 350029 - 3 BR Lake Mary & Lake Elizabeth Cottage in WI, Comfortable Lakefront Cabin with Picturesque View of Lake Mary (http://www.vrbo.com/350029 - broken link)
Powers Lake Vacation Rental - VRBO 318381 - 4 BR Southeast Cabin in WI, Log Cabin for Rent (http://www.vrbo.com/318381 - broken link)

Lots of these owners think that because they are close to Lake Geneva they can get "chewing gum heir" prices, but if you want close that is what you mostly have to deal with...

I can make it from Midway to Utica/ Starved rock in about 90 minutes if traffic is OK -- Utica Vacation Rental - VRBO 374661 - 3 BR Starved Rock State Park Cabin in IL, Luxury Cabin Near Starved Rock. Most Secluded Area in Resort! (http://www.vrbo.com/374661 - broken link)

From Chicago (the loop), you can get to New Buffalo, Michigan, in a little over an hour - it would take you a while longer from the northern suburbs.

Try northwest Indiana near dune country, I am sure they must have something like that out there.

There is a place in Michigan City called Serenity springs.

Unfortunately cabins inside the footprint of Chicagoland are next to impossible to find.

If you want a real cabin experience you have to travil to Wisc, MI, Southern IL
or Kentucky.

Last year I was driving close to Sandwich , IL and stumbled across a campground that had very small cabins
.(sorry but i do not remember the name or even what village it was near.) The only thing i remember I was going to Sandwich, IL via back roads.

If you are looking for that Kentucky cabin feel or Northern woods feel anyplace around Chicagoland it's simply not here.

There are cabins at White Pine State Park in Oregon, IL .. to the Northwest of Chicago. Also cabins (and other accommodations ranging from B&B's to full residential homes) available in Galena, IL also ... about 2.5 hours to the north and west of Chicago. Depending on what type of entertainment or activities you want available .. Galena has a wide range of them from which to choose. Everything from skiing, to hot-air balloons, horse-back riding, historic downtown shopping, vineyards, bicyling, etc. Shout out if you need more info. Have a great time, no matter your final choice of destinations ..
