Oak Park - neighborhood in question (Chicago, Arlington Heights: apartment, to rent, condo)

Hi Everyone. I am very excited about visitng the area for the first time thsi weekend. Thanks to everyone that has helped with all of my questions.

I am currently scheduled to look at an apartment in Arlington Heights ( Avalon Community downtown), and Kingston Point ( downtown Des Plaines).

I just found a condo to rent in Oak Park and I didn't see it listed as a high crime area. Does anyone know if this address 109 S Maple Avenue with cross streets of Circle Ave and N Harlem Ave are safe? It is close to the Metra and the L and a Pace Bus Stop.

That area in Oak Park is quite safe. It is an incredibly convenient location for being close to the "downtown" part of Oak Park, with many shops/restaurants etc... all within a very short walking distance. And of course it is right next to the train so a commuting breeze. So if you want to be right in the thick of things... that's it. Of course, as in any place, you should always be savvy about how you carry yourself, and the Green line train does go through some rough areas of the Chicago.

The only thing I wonder is the noise. If you are a "city" person, then no problem. But you are close to one of the busiest parts of Oak Park, and you will definitely hear the train from there. For many of us, that's no big deal, but something to think about if you are sensitive.

Fine neighborhood, close to everything. You will barely need a car. You will be able to walk to get groceries, restaurants, take out, the gym (the Y or FFC), the train.
