We most likely WON'T be seeing Chicago's worst that early in the snow season. You're going to be here for less than a week, just bring some shoes with good traction that you won't mind getting wet and possibly salt stained.

If it snows, it will be plowed/shoveled. No need to buy boots unless you are doing the shoveling.

Salt kills shoes and boots. So bring along a pair of ratty old running/walking shoes and extra socks.

Don't bother. Assuming the forecast is somewhat accurate it doesn't look like any meaningful snow for the foreseeable future.

Yep. Tom Skilling says a cold front is moving in on Friday with snow flurries on Monday & Wednesday. Perfect winter weather for a visitor without getting snowed in at O'Hare.
