Default Prospect Heights?

I've seen a ton of condos in our price range in Prospect Heights, but know nothing about the area. I've heard that there is a "good side" and a "bad side" and that most of the condos are on the "bad side." Is that true? If so, what makes the bad side bad? Also wondering about condo living in Arlington Hts, Mt. Prospect, and Elk Grove Village.
