The OP mentioned Flossmoor. What about Flossmoor's neighbor Homewood?

Wheaton has a nice station and has good coffee and breakfast/pastries, etc. inside including good seats and restrooms. Walking distance to a goodly number of other restaurants, there is a caribou right across the street too. The residential areas surrounding the station are nice as well especially north of the tracks.

Geneva is pretty far west, but it's a great town with lots going on in the downtown area.

Naperville (but downtown is a few blocks away), Lisle, Downers Grove Main St (try Scarletti's Restaurant - great place), Evanston Central Street (Davis is ok but has / had a fair number of panhandlers), Wilmette ($$$), Wheaton.

Used to ride Nville to Evanston on METRA, now just Nville to CUS.
