We are looking for a property in Northbrook and have seen some including those near the Metra station. While a positive feature for those going to downtown, it can also be a problem esp. at night.

Does someone know if there are quiet timezones for Metra and how big problems are those train whistles?

I am asking this because some of the communities near O'Hare have similar problem caused by flights departing from/arriving at the airport. Don't know if Northbrook falls in the flight zone.

On a side note, is flooding a problem in Northbrook and how high is the water table? That too can be a cause of concern considering the flooding problems faced by some North shore communities in this summer's historic rains.

I am not an expert in Northbrook but we did looked very seriously at the Highlands suburbs predominantly because of easy access to Metra and downtown northbrook and great schools. I can't recall the exact street names (Cedar?) but the closer you get to the train line there is a small creek there that may cause some flooding issues. I believe you will hear the trains but Metra does stop running after midnight or so. I am not sure if freight train runs through that line.
