Default Commute to Vernon Hills from Glenview/Skokie?

Hello everyone. I'm a young gay guy relocating to Chicago. I'll be commuting to Vernon Hills. Ideally, I'd live in Chicago, but the commute is no-go. I like Evanston, but the commute looks pretty long. I'm looking at Glenview or Skokie, because they're close to Chicago and Evanston. Realistically, how long would the commute be from these locations? I don't mind a 35 minute commute, but I'm not sure if I trust google maps estimate. Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't know if you can stomach the commute from Skokie you might as well just live in the city. I work right next to vernon hills and I'd say about 40% of my group here commute from the city daily. However, if you have an extremely low tolerance for traffic and settle on skokie I would say 35 minutes is probably a bit low, if you are driving in the peak hours. Maybe more like 45 if you are dealing with any type of rush hour.

Skokie to Vernon Hills is over 20 miles. I would give the AM commute about 40 minutes and the drive home will probably be an extra 10-20 minutes. Add LOTS of time if / when weather / accident / construction throws a monkey wrench into road conditions...

I lived in Skokie in my 20's? Why? Free assigned parking behind the building. Less congestion than the city(city made me feel claustrophobic) yet close to the city. Good rental value and familiarity since I grew up there. In hindsight, I would have been happier in Evanston in walking distance to the "L" and some cafes, restaurants and bars.

Hey those are all legit reasons, and I'm by no means saying that Skokie is an awful place, but I don't think this is the way most 20 somethings think. I am a 20 something (barely, holding on for dear life lol) and almost everyone I know puts a huge premium on being IN the city. Skokie might as well be Antioch to them.

I agree and that's why I said in hindsight Evanston, its more urban vibe and DUI-free transportation via CTA to have FUN in Chicago would have been better for me than Skokie. In other words-Skokie was BORING and a COMPROMISE.

I hear you on that man. At the end of the night in the city if you're "schlepping" back to Skokie, you basically need to cab it back (if you've been drinking). At least taxi's are willing to take you to Skokie. Some of them try to refuse rides to far flung burbs such as those in Lake County.
