Default need apartment between Elwood and Chicago

I am being relocated to a new job in Elwood, IL in a few weeks and I am not familiar with the area at all. I am looking for a place where there is a downtown area with nightlife, a young adult crowd, and is safe. I do not want to make a long commute (no longer than 45 minutes). I started looking for places between Elwood and Chicago, about 30 minutes from each. Some of the towns I found were Orland Park, Tinley Park, Palos, Oak Lawn, Downers Grove. I am not familiar with any part of Illinois so I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!

Elwood is west of Manhattan, apparently? Funny how i have never even heard of it. Tru Joliet. Reasonable commute, decent city and you can ride Metra to Chicago on weekends. The places you are looking into are gonna give you a long commute that I just don't find to be necessary.
