Does anyone know the cutoff birthdate for Kindergarten admittance? Also, any preschools or Pre-K programs in the area? Thanks in advance.

I don't know about Pre-K or even Chicago school rules. The cut off birthdate for entering the first school year in Illinois used to be in November. Then I was told it changed to September. My best guess do believe the cutoff date will be somewhere between Aug 15 and Nov 15. If the child's birthday falls too late you can either wait a year and put him in Kindergarten or homeshool him and put him in First grade.

He will have to have immunization up to date, eye and physical exam when you take him for school registration or the appointment dates for same.

Thanks! I found out the child must be 5 by September 1st. Her birthday is the 4th, so she'll wait a year. Now, to find a full-time pre-k program...

I know that Homewood schools have a pre-k program; not sure about Flossmoor. You might try contacting the district(s) to see if your daughter qualifies. For private schools, I have heard good things about St. Joseph School in Homewood, which is right downtown on Dixie Hwy next to the library. St. Joseph School - St. Joseph School

I have also heard good things about Infant Jesus of Prague in Flossmoor, also near Flossmoor's downtown area, on Flossmoor Road. www.ijpparish.org (broken link)

Yes, 9/1 is the cut-off for homewood. The best pre-K I found finally for my daughter in the area is Homewood Childrens Center on Dixie south of 183rd. It's been around forever, and the owner is a nurse who pushes learning.

These are more for people wanting a Christian based Pre-k curriculum.

We are a non-religious family, so that probably wouldn't be a good fit. Our biggest task is going to be finding a full-day Pre-K. My daughter has been in full-time preschool for two years now and I don't want to scale back to half days the year before kindergarten...
Thanks everyone!

Homewood Childrens pre-K is full-time we used, and not religious.
