I was thinking about relocating to Schaumburg in the future. But I heard that Schaumburg is bland with old houses yet it's very affluent, diverse, and safe. And traffic to Chicago is terrible almost taking an hour to get there. Is all that true?

If you do a "search" of this forum you will find much info on S'burg, much of it the same...A group of strip malls, chain restaraunts and sub-divisions built around a huge shopping mall.It is not considered affluent, most is not "old" unless you consider early 70's and 80's old.A big yes on the traffic

Schaumburg is kinda the poster child in the Chicago area for "boring burbs". There are something like 230 suburbs of Chicago, which house about 6,500,000 people. Schaumburg is around 75% white, 3% black, 16% asian and 6% hispanic. It's mostly large roads, strip malls, subdivisions and malls. I much more prefer living in the city, but if I was going to move out to the suburbs I'd rather check out Oak Park, Evanston or some other more established suburb. Schaumburg was created by developers in the 50's, and doesn't really have anything unique or historic.

Schaumburg is a destination village. More people visit/work in Shaumburg than live there. Every retail establishment is there, plenty of restaurants, office plazas, hotels, etc... but charming/historic homes are not. If you want apartment living within 5 minutes to your service providers that is the place to be, otherwise there are other choices with quaint downtowns, charming neighborhoods and great schools around the corner.

If youre a strip-mall-aholic and shopping aficionado, Schaumburg would be your dream come true.

Good point. I agree with this. Also, if you're someone who doesn't plan on visiting the city often, Schaumburg would be a good option. It's one of those self contained suburbs. You can live there, work there, go to school there, get medical care there, go to comedy clubs, many eateries, parks, etc. It's a great place to live for those you don't want to have to venture out of their town..much like Naperville.

Schaumburg is in a great location. Convenient to O'hare Airport and the Loop without being too close. No offense but the snootiness of some of these comments on Schaumburg are so rude. Do these people have the "charm and character" they say this town lacks?

I agree, Schaumburg is a great community, maybe not so diverse, but it is changing for the better I have noticed. It has been dwarfed by Woodfield Mall, but there is also a sense of community, great parks and open land (busse woods etc..) near it.
