Boston suburbs to Chicago Suburbs?
Hello there. First time posting in the Ill forum. One of my closest friends and her husband are considering a move from the Boston suburbs to the Chicago area. He has a god job offer near Naperville, and would most likely look to live there. Has anyone out there moved from Boston to Chicago and would like to share their experience? How do the two cities compare as far as people, recreation, geography, homes, and of course weather..School info is available online, so I think she has that covered. Any help would be appreciated, I'll pass it on. Thanks.

Well the good news about our weather that I can finally say something good about is that Chicago's weather is by FAR nowhere near as extreme as Boston's with it's severe nor-easters, gales, and frigid damp conditions that blow in off the Atlantic from Nov. till about April. Usually, Chicago is about 10-20 degrees warmer than Boston both winter and summer. Our weather here is very much like Long Island's or Manhattan's weather where temps will usually stay just a degree or two too warm for extreme snowstorms in the winter, but that is not to say that it doesn't occasionally blast us with a foot of snow in the winter. Summers here are hot and humid with temps in the 90's many days and falls are pleasent in the 70s-80s and very sunny.
An area to check out that is close to Naperville, yet looks very much like Boston by having nice old homes and lots of trees lining the streets would be Claredon Hills, Westmont, Downers Grove, and Hinsdale.

The monthly average temperatures for Chicago and Boston are remarkably similar. We probably have more extremes than Boston, but our weather shouldn't be daunting to any New Englander.

Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills remind me a lot of Wellesley, except maybe at a 20% discount.

Chicago is not 10-20 degrees warmer year round.
Chicago and Boston's temps are almost identical on average:
Chicago average temps:
Jan=22 Feb=26 Mar=37 Apr=49 May=59 Jun=69 Jul=74 Aug=72 Sep=65 Oct=53 Nov=40 Dec=27
Weatherbase: Historical Weather for Chicago, Illinois, United States of America
Boston average temps:
Jan=30 Feb=31 Mar=38 Apr=49 May=59 Jun=68 Jul=74 Aug=72 Sep=65 Oct=53 Nov=45 Dec=34
Weatherbase: Historical Weather for Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America
So in fact, the average temp of Boston in the winter months is warmer.
And you also need to specify that the summers here CAN be hot and humid, not ARE hot and humid. Florida's summers ARE hot n' humid. They dont get breaks from it like we do.
